Last night at Electric Lady recording studios in NYC, Melanie Fiona hosted an album listening party for press for her new album “The MF Life”. She took the time to introduce each track before previewing it, then proceeded to greet attendees in the room with a stamp of one of her famous purple hearts. She has a few big name collaborations on this album that she seemed very excited about, including Nas (“Running”), J. Cole (“This Time”), John Legend (“L.O.V.E.”) and B.O.B. (“Change the Record”). She’s also got great production from the likes of Salaam Remi, No I.D., Jack Splash, and even a song written by Drake, who she originally came up with coming out of Canada. From what we heard of the album, she definitely dabbles into different styles outside of r&b, but she’s able to combine all of those elements and it genuinely works for her. Here’s our prediction, this is going to be one of the best r&b albums of the year.
