Last night in NYC, Dwele performed with opening act John Michael at BB King’s. Up and coming artist John Michael opened the show, his first performance in New York, and impressed the audience with his smooth vocals. He took them through a few covers like Miguel’s “Quickie”, Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You”, and Donell Jones’ “Where I Wanna Be” before going into music from his John Micheal EP and hit single “Sophisticated Lady”. For a new artist, he was extremely comfortable on stage, even calling up a fan to dance with him on stage who he saw dancing in the crowd to his music. Overall, this was a very solid performance from John Michael, an artist we should be hearing a lot about in the near future. Dwele then took the stage and addressed his adoring fans. He went into “I Think I Love You” while serenading a female fan at the front of the stage. He then got behind the piano to show off his multiple talents while singing his hit “I’m Cheatin”. Proving to be a cool character on stage, Dwele then took impromptu requests from the audience and performed music from his debut “Rize” on command. Not only was his voice powerful as ever, but with a horn section backing him, it brought a whole new element to his music. Looking to get up close and personal with his adoring fans, he proceeded to join them in the crowd while performing a few songs including an ode to his city on “Detroit Sunrise”. All in all it was another great night of good live rnb music at BB Kings, well worth the price of admission.
