Estelle BET Music Matters Irving Plaza Feb 2012

Last month when Estelle was doing promo for her new album “All of Me”, we attended a listening session for her new album she held in NYC. We were able to get a few minutes with Estelle to discuss her new album “All of Me”, which is in stores now.

YouKnowIGotSoul: We’re here at the listening party for your new album “All of Me”. What can you tell us about the album and what can we expect on there?

Estelle: I hope people like it! It took me three years, it’s super personal, every song is like a real moment and there is a story behind it. I had to live and grow for this one. Everyone was like “What happened after the last record? Was she a one hit wonder?” I wanted to live and be a human being. “American Boy” is still dope, I’m still getting hired to sing the song for money. *Laughs*

YouKnowIGotSoul: After releasing your last album “Shine” four years ago, do you think people will be able to hear your growth on this one?

Estelle: Yea, this one was a little more direct, on a different level with direct. On “Shine” I would give it some space before I went into the studio to write about a situation. This one, I would only give it an hour before I went in and wrote because if I don’t I’m going to punch you or choke you! I wasn’t use to being that vulnerable. On “Shine”, I thought how could I sit down and work your way through this and say nicely, I just didn’t give a shit this time.

YouKnowIGotSoul: What’s a song people should look out for on this album?

Estelle: “Love the Way He Used To” is my favorite.

YouKnowIGotSoul: Last comments on the album?

Estelle: I just hope that people get that it’s all of me. I don’t want to explain myself, who I am, what I come from.
