Vivian Green YouKnowIGotSoul May 2015-1

When we sat down with Vivian Green to discuss her upcoming album “Vivid” last month, we also had her take part in our “Song Association” segment. If you haven’t checked out our previous ones, we simply name off a song that the artist has written, sung, or been involved in, and have them give us the first thoughts that pop into their head. Vivian dug deep for this one. Check out her responses to 10 songs he was involved in over the course of her career.

YouKnowIGotSoul: “What is Love”.

Vivian Green: The genius of Eric Roberson, that’s what I think of when I think of that song. Even though I wrote some parts, the bulk of it was his song. *Laughs*

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Wishful Thinking”.

Vivian Green: Just being young, that’s what I think of. Coming of age.

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Emotional Rollercoaster”.

Vivian Green: First love and heartbreak

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Gotta Go, Gotta Leave”.

Vivian Green: I was finally growing up and getting it together! *Laughs*

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Sweet Thing”.

Vivian Green: A fun song that I love so much that never really got the attention it deserved. I never performed it on stage either, but I love that song. I think it would actually fit into the vibe of my current body of work. It was definitely maybe not consistent with other things I wrote on that “Vivian” album. I think it stood out because it had a different feel to it. I love the song but hate that I never performed it. I guess some of those album tracks, you always love but may never get to perform them because they’re not fan favorites or people didn’t get it. I don’t love it any less, I love that song! *Laughs*

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Beautiful”.

Vivian Green: Too many words, too many damn words. Too wordy! *Laughs* That’s the first thing that comes to mind!

YouKnowIGotSoul: “When We’re Apart”.

Vivian Green: I love that song.

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Too intense”.

Vivian Green: I love it. That was a favorite from that album that a lot of people that it should have been the single. Maybe if it was, “Beautiful” would have had a completely different outcome than it had. I love how the part comes in after every line. I love that song. No matter the level of success of albums, when you work on something and put your blood, sweat, and tears into something, there will always be a place for it in your heart whether 10 or 10 million people knew about it. I try not to define how much I love my own work based on how others received it. I have some songs on all my 4 previous albums that I love to death and always will no matter what.

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Anything Out There”.

Vivian Green: People didn’t get it. I don’t know. One of the times where I wanted to give somebody else room to have a vision for me that I may not have for myself. I did not write the song, but I think it’s well written and I love the track. But people just didn’t get it for whatever reason and that’s weird. Something you think is cool that other people just don’t get. Maybe the video was too much for some people. *Laughs*

YouKnowIGotSoul: “Remedy”.

Vivian Green: I love that song!! When I do a full show, I usually perform it. It’s one of the songs from “The Green Room” that I always do. I just love.
