New Music: Kem “It’s You” (Lyric Video)
Two-time GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer, songwriter, and producer, KEM, just unveiled his latest single “It’s You” yesterday as part of a National Premiere on Clear Channel and iHeartRadio stations. On just the second day after its world premiere, the single is trending strongly on UAC charts.
This is the first track to be released from his anxiously awaited fourth full-length studio album due out this August through Motown Records. It also marks his first new music since 2012’s holiday album, What Christmas Means. The song is set to impact US Urban Adult Contemporary radio stations on Monday June 9. Watch the lyric video here!
On “It’s You,” KEM pays homage to the iconic “Motown Sound” with rich instrumentation and his confident and charismatic delivery. Penning the lyrics himself, the artist enlisted a genuine dream team for production. He co-produced alongside Demetrius Nabors and tapped Ray Bardani [Luther Vandross] for mixing and Bernie Grundman [Michael Jackson’s Thriller] for mastering. Motown legend Paul Riser [Stevie Wonder, The Temptations] conducted the orchestra on the string arrangement, expanding the sound immensely.
KEM describes it best saying, “It’s classic KEM with a twist that will take you by surprise.” He goes on, “Although I’ve been signed to Motown Records since 2002, I feel ‘It’s You’ is the first song I’ve crafted that truly embodies the essence of what we have to come to know as the ‘Motown Sound’. If The Temptations were making music for today’s R&B audience, this is what it might sound like. As for what it’s about, the brother is in love, and he knows where home is. It’s You!”
R&B fans certainly know they can rely on KEM. His first three albums all reached Gold status. 2005’s Album II yielded “I Can’t Stop Loving You”, which reached #1 at Urban Adult Contemporary Radio, and it featured the collaboration with Stevie Wonder, “You Might Win.” Meanwhile, Intimacy: Album III landed at #2 on the Billboard Top 200, giving him his highest debut yet on that particular chart. 2014 is shaping up to be a monumental year for him, and it begins with “It’s You.”
