Global music icon and five-time GRAMMY® Award winner Mariah Carey is officially kicking off the 25th-anniversary celebration of her cult-classic 2001 soundtrack, Glitter. To inaugurate the milestone, Carey has surprised fans with a newly reimagined version of the fan-favorite track “Didn’t Mean To Turn You On,” featuring acclaimed alternative R&B vocalist Rochelle Jordan.
Available now across all major streaming platforms, the newly released remix was produced by KLSH and marks the first time Carey and Jordan have collaborated on record.
The reimagined track bridges the gap between Glitter’s original R&B, funk, and dance-pop foundations and Jordan’s forward-facing blend of electronic music and UK garage. The result is a hypnotic, club-ready anthem that breathes new life into the 1983-inspired original, successfully merging classic R&B sensibilities with a modern underground edge.
“The Glitter Anniversary Era begins!!! Here’s something fun I worked on with ROCHELLE JORDAN to whet your appetites while we wait for the album’s release on October 30,” Carey shared across social media to announce the drop.
The release serves as the lead offering for a massive reissue campaign honoring Glitter, an album that has undergone a historic critical and cultural reappraisal.
Originally released on September 11, 2001, the soundtrack to Carey’s romantic musical drama was initially dismissed by critics and struggled commercially amidst the tragic events of that day. However, Carey’s fiercely dedicated fanbase—the “Lambily”—refused to let the project fade. In 2018, fans launched the viral #JusticeForGlitter campaign, remarkably pushing the 17-year-old album to No. 1 on the iTunes charts worldwide.
To fully commemorate the silver anniversary, an expanded Digital Deluxe Edition of Glitter will arrive on October 30 via Def Jam Records/UMe. The highly anticipated package will add 15 additional tracks, including rare and previously unreleased recordings sourced directly from Carey’s personal vault.
Additionally, the album will return to vinyl for the first time since its original release. Fans will have the option to purchase a standard Midnight Purple 2LP edition or a limited-edition Deluxe version, which includes three highly sought-after bonus tracks: “Out Here On My Own,” the “Never Too Far/Hero (Medley),” and the legendary “Loverboy (Firecracker – Original Version).”
