Jaz Karis Life is Unfair

South London R&B vocalist Jaz Karis has officially released her newest single, “Life Is Unfair,” available today across all major digital platforms. The smooth, mid-tempo track serves as the lead single for her forthcoming EP, Twenty Something, which is scheduled to drop on her birthday, July 9, 2026.

The new single explores the complex emotions surrounding a fractured friendship and the regret of broken trust. Filled with rueful observations, the track navigates the vulnerability of oversharing with someone who ultimately breaches that confidence.

“‘Life is unfair’ is a conversation about the consequences of breaking someone’s trust and feeling like life has dealt you an unfair hand,” Karis stated regarding the release. “I reference my therapist as a nod to me knowing better and feeling annoyed with the situation in retrospect.”

The forthcoming six-track EP, Twenty Something, is designed to trace an emotional arc that moves from whimsical nostalgia through vulnerability and loss, ultimately culminating in faith and self-belief. Karis describes the project as a deeply personal reflection on her current decade of life.

A Return to Roots: The EP marks a deliberate return to the sonic foundation that introduced her to the industry, heavily featuring live instrumentation and raw, honest vocal performances.

Narrative Scope: “I unpack the reality of my twenties: love, heartbreak, friendship shifts, and faith. Flaws and all,” she noted, calling the project a “full-circle moment.”

The new musical era arrives during a highly active touring season for Karis. She recently concluded dates supporting Leigh-Ann on her UK tour and Jacquees in California. Following a May 20 performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall supporting Kojey Radical, Karis is next slated to perform at the Jazz Cafe Festival on August 2, sharing a bill with prominent acts including Ari Lennox, Smino, and Greentea Peng.

Twenty Something builds upon the momentum of her previous EP, Loud in the Water, and her critically acclaimed 2024 debut studio album, Safe Flight.

A two-time MOBO Award nominee for Best R&B Act, Karis has firmly established her international footprint. Her catalog—which includes a noted vocal feature on producer Juls’ hit track “Soweto Blues”—has surpassed 100 million global streams. Her recent SAFE FLIGHT headlining tour completely sold out major international markets, including New York, Los Angeles, London, and Paris.
