In celebration of her just released debut EP “Love is Everything”, Antonique Smith held an intimate press listening event to give the audience a preview of the new music. As guests were treated to snacks and beverages, Antonique was introduced to the room by her manager and production partner Darryl Farmer. She began speaking on her journey through the industry so far, beginning as an actress and making the transition to a singer. Antonique touched on her Kickstarter campaign which raised $50K and really got her on the right track, including the creation of her single “Hold Up Wait a Minute (Woo Woo)” which earned her a Grammy nomination.
Next, each of the songs on the EP was played for the crowd and she explained the meaning behind them. “Love is Everything” is meant to share the different experiences of love, and you can tell by the lyrics she hit on that exactly. The music has a real pop/soul appeal with r&b mixed in, with influences that include Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion. Antonique even got emotional as she played “All We Really Have is Now”, a very personal record which was written by Emeli Sande and Toby Gad.
The event closed out with a speech from Reverend Yearwood who led the hip hop caucus that Antonique toured 20 cities in support of. She followed with a beautiful acoustic performance of the EP’s final song, a cover of The Beatles “Here Comes the Sun”. Check out our photos from the event below, including Antonique with friend and fellow actress Naturi Naughton, and be sure to support “Love is Everything” which is out now!
