Last night at the Beacon Theater in NYC, Ledisi & Eric Benet performed as part of Ledisi’s “Be Good To Yourself” tour.
Eric Benet opened the show, taking the crowd through his hits spanning each of his albums before performing “Real Love” and “Harriett Jones” from his new album “The One” which is out now. The crowd was loving his vocals, giving him a great reception which led him to comment “If you get that in New York, you’re the real shit!” The highlight of his performance was when he surprised everyone by bringing out Tamia to sing their duet “Spend My Life With You”; such a great moment in r&b.
The real highlight of the evening, however, was Ledisi’s WHOLE performance! Taking the audience through her “Pieces of Me” album, she entertained the crowd from beginning to end. Her vocal delivery was so effortless as she belted out notes with ease, giving the audience the feel that she sounded BETTER live than on a CD, even while dancing around the stage. Not only did she impress with her vocals, but also with her personality, as she engaged the crowd between songs. The end of the set culminated with the crowd coming to their feet to give her a standing ovation, and remain there while she performed the last 15 minutes of her set. That type of reaction is very rare from a New York audience, but it was well deserved. This was one of the best shows we’ve covered in a long time.
