When Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott started her own label Goldmind Inc in the late 90’s, she was helping to springboard the careers of a few select artists in r&b. Although Lil’ Mo isn’t one of the artists she directly signed to her label, she did help her get the label deal with Elektra, and feature her on many of her songs. Lil’ Mo’s first single was “5 Minutes”, a song that features vocals and production from Missy, and was also the lead single on the “Why Do Fools Fall in Love” soundtrack in 1998.
A version of the song we hadn’t heard until recently is a remix by Timbaland, who as many are well aware, frequently collaborated with Missy from the mid 90’s until today. What you’ll hear in this remix is vintage Timbaland production, reminiscent in fact of the work he did with Aaliyah and Ginuwine on their albums in the late 90’s.
