Teddy Riley was the man of the hour at the 2016 Soul Train Awards, and he got the tribute to commemorate the night. After being honored with the Soul Train Legend Award, the music pioneer took the stage to perform and brought some friends with him.
The founder of the New Jack Swing genre and Guy and Blackstreet member began by tributing the fallen Michael Jackson, Heavy D, Johnny Kemp, and Tony Thompson. He then performed a quick medley of the hits he had a hand in creating, before being joined by guests like Bobby Brown (“My Prerogative”), Tito Jackson playing guitar in place of brother Michael (“Remember the Time”), and eventually a Guy reunion featuring Damion and Aaron Hall.
The legend is perhaps not only one of the most talented, but most humble we have in music today. In an exclusive interview we did with him a few years back, he shared some great perspective on his work in music.
